The Body You Inherited is Built for Scarcity.

This supported farmers, but also accelerated the rise of:
– Refined carbohydrates
– Industrial food processing
– Global distribution of low-cost, high-calorie foods
The result?
We moved from periodic eating to constant consumption
And the body never got the signal to switch fuel sources.
The Hidden Problem: Fat Gain and Muscle Loss
This is where things start to go wrong.
When the body is constantly exposed to:
– High insulin levels
– Excess calories
– low physical demand
It adapts, but not in ways that benefit long-term health.
Instead, we see:
– Fat accumulation (especially around the abdomen)
– Loss of muscle mass
– Reduced metabolic rate
– Worsening insulin sensitivity
This combination is sometimes called sarcopenic obesity.
And it’s far more dangerous than weight gain alone.
Because muscle is not just for movement.
Muscle is:
– A key regulator of metabolism
– Essential for glucose control
– Critical for long-term strength and independence
Lose muscle, and the entire metabolic system begins to decline.

Why Traditional Advice Often Fails
Many people respond by:
– Eating less
– Doing more cardio
– Focusing only on the number on the scale
But this can make things worse.
Without the right strategy:
– Your metabolism slows further
– You may lose more muscle than fat
– Weight loss becomes harder to sustain
This is why so many people say:
“I’m trying, but nothing is working.”
The Solution: Rebuild Metabolic Flexibility
The goal is not extreme dieting.
It’s restoring what your body was designed to do: Metabolic flexibility
And that comes down to three key pillars:
1. Whole, Unprocessed Food Focus on:
– Protein-rich foods
– Natural healthy fats
– Fibre-rich vegetables
– Minimally processed carbohydrates
This helps:
– Stabilise blood sugar
– Reduce insulin spikes
– Support muscle maintenance
2. Intermittent Periods Without Food
Not constant eating.
But structured breaks:
– Allowing insulin levels to fall
– Encouraging fat utilisation
– Restoring metabolic switching
This doesn’t need to be extreme.
Even modest fasting windows can make a difference.

3. Physical Activity (Especially Resistance Training)
Movement is not optional; it’s a metabolic signal.
In particular:
Resistance training preserves and builds muscle
Walking and daily activity improve insulin sensitivity
This tells the body:
“This muscle is needed. Please don’t lose it.”
The Take-Home Message
Weight alone is a poor measure of health.
You could be:
The same weight
or even lighter
…but metabolically worse off.
The real question is:
Are you preserving muscle… or losing it?
Are you burning fat… or storing it?
Because once you understand this, everything changes.
